How To Move Towards Your Goals

I feel that sometimes working towards achieving goals is a really rocky road. Not everything works out smoothly the first time you try, and the road is not usually a straight line, but full of curves and turns.

My take on working towards your goals is this:

  1. Keep Working – No matter how hard and unstable you feel, you have to keep trying and working towards the things you want. And by that I mean, that even if you feel like everyone is criticizing you, and what your trying to achieve seems impossible, and you feel stupid for even trying, and even when nothing seems to work out the way you wanted it to, you have to keep pushing. You can start by doing the smallest, easiest thing that will make you feel better and move you one small step towards your goal.

2. Understand what lies beneath the reasons for your goals, and why you’re having a hard time accomplishing them I think it’s really important to revise and understand what you want in life, what are your true goals, and who you are. That’s actually where you need to start. Sometimes we think we want something because it seems glamorous and like something we should do. But, in reality, it’s not our true self and what we really want. I do think we should explore anything our heart desires, but at the same time, it’s really important to work on self-acceptance. Because it all starts with radical self-love and self-acceptance. When you start accepting who you are more, I think your true power is released and you can do much more in life. And I think your goals might change, and it might be easier to accomplish them. When you truly know who you are, and what makes you excited and happy, as opposed to what drains you, then you can really move forward faster, easier, and you will be able to stick to your goals more because you have a true reason for why you are trying to achieve them.

3. Accept the fact that the road is rocky and look at it as an adventure – We all have one life, so we might as well try and achieve what we really want. The problem I think most people encounter when thinking about achieving their heart’s desire is that fact that it involves taking risks. People have to face taking risks if they want to achieve something different than what they had before. You have to move out of your comfort zone in order to achieve great things. It means, you have to accept this is an adventure, and on an adventure, not everything works out smoothly the first time, there is uncertainty and sometimes the road is unknown. Adventure is exciting, it’s refreshing, and it’s scary. It’s all of these feelings wrapped together, and I guess it means accepting feeling uncomfortable. If you are able to accept this, your life will be so much easier. it’s accepting feeling uncomfortable for things that are worth it. It means it’s followed by great excitement and joy, and that makes it all worth it.

4. Moving towards fear, And accepting that Fear is Part of the process – fear will always be part of the process. Anything worth working towards usually is something that will make you grow. And growing involves feeling uncomfortable, and usually very fearful. The best thing you can do for yourself is working towards something that you really want and frightens you. And usually, it means moving towards something you feel like you will get criticized for. That’s what I think a lot of people are scared of. What other people might think of them, well, in 10 years it won’t matter. And you wouldn’t want to stop walking on the trail towards your dreams because of the opinion of someone. I think the best way to cope with this, is to try with small steps to do things you want to do, and are scared that other people might judge you for. When you will see that nothing horrible happens, or that some people do judge you but you are not reacting to that as much as you thought, and you just don’t care that much, then, you can really start moving forward. Small step by small step.

Keep working towards your dreams, day by day, in small baby steps, and after a while, you will see big progress and you will be in a different place than you were before.
