How to Make a Home Made Scent Diffuser

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the harmful effects of chemicals in our cleaning and beauty products. As a part of that, I started looking for greener healthier options for a great smelling home.

I love scents around the house, we have a scent diffuser in most of the rooms in our house. Since I have a few essential oil, I decided to research online and come up with a few recipes for making a DIY scent diffuser.

So, what will you need to make one yourself:

  • Water
  • Alcohol
  • essential oils of your choice
  • A carrier oil – Like grapeseed oil, apricot oil, safflower oil or any other carrier oil you have in your home.
  • A bottle of an old oil diffuser + sticks

I’ve had experience with using a carrier oil before, but I put too much and it kind of clogged the sticks and the scent couldn’t move through. So, I suggest you use a smaller amount than recommended in most recipes.

You need to use:

  • A few tablespoons of the carrier oil
  • A few tablespoons of the alcohol
  • 15-30 drops of any essential oils you like

Directions:

This is where the fun part comes in, you can try mixing around different scents, to see what goes well with one another. Try smelling them next to each other, and be creative.

My most loved combination, a scent that gives a clean but a warm feeling is lavender and vanilla. The next scent I want to try is rose in this combination.

It worked great for me, I suggest you experiment with this recommendation and see if it works for you. You can change the amounts to fit your needs: if it looks like the oil got stuck in the reeds, add some alcohol, and if it looks like the alcohol is not doing much and there is not much scent, add some carrier oil for the oil to be absorbed in the reeds, or some essential oils to make the scent stronger.

Good luck!
